Thanks to the generosity and collaboration of many individuals, you can use any of the data available on the site. You need only to follow the scholarly tradition of referencing and acknowledging the research teams that did the earlier work. (See the Contributors section for publications where they present their methods.)
Unless otherwise specified, the MAP project team is the author of the shapefiles used on this site. Numerous individuals and organizations assisted with scanning the historical maps and preparing the digital ones: Service des archives et Service de géomatique de la Ville de Montréal, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, McGill University Libraries Rare Books and Special Collections, University of Western Ontario Library and Geography Department, Rosa Orlandini, Ruilan Shi, Carol Marley, Kevin Henry, Jean-François Palomino, Jason Gilliland, Don Lafrenière, Kevin van Lierop, and a host of students employed part-time in 2000-2002.
Each download includes a list of variables, sources, and references.
You may need to tell your GIS software that our map layers are projected in MTM zone8 nad83 (current projection standard EPSG:2950 NAD83(CSRS)/MTM zone 8 Transverse Mercator). This projection was chosen to be consistent with the digital maps currently used by the Service de géomatique de la Ville de Montréal.
